Classic Vehicle Notes

* Vehicle Background
*
* Ferrari unveiled the all new 348 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1989. The striking replacement for the venerable 308/328, which had been in production for over 13 years, was penned by Pininfarina and carried over many of the styling treatments from the Testarossa design book. In many ways the 348 was a baby Testarossa, with the longitudinally mounted 3.4 litre V8 setting it apart from the Flat 12. With 300BHP and its manual 5 speed gearbox, the 348 ticked a lot of boxes. And the V8 powered 348 was available as the 'tb' berlinetta and as the 'ts' spider. It was also a big seller for the Maranello outfit, with 8,844 examples built between 1989 and 1995.
*
* Vehicle History and Paperwork
*
* This particular 1991 Ferrari 348tb spent some of its life in Kuwait, before arriving in the UK in 2005. The current owner imported the car from Kuwait on the 6th July 2005 and it has been in their custodianship for the past 20 years.
*
* On the rear of engine cover is a dealer badge for Eberlein Kassel, a Ferrari dealership based in the city of Kassel in Germany. So it is likely the 348 also lived on the continent, before making its way to Kuwait. It would be interesting to discover the cars history going back over the years, which could be a nice research project for the new owner.
*
* Included in the history file is a Ferrari Owners Handbook pack, with service records from when the 348 arrived in the UK in 2005.
*
* There are also some hand written maintenance notes from the current owner, which documents servicing and ongoing maintenance over the years. Photos of the owners service notes and invoices are shown in the photo gallery.
*
* The Ferrari 348tb comes with 2 keys and 2 remote fobs for the Toad alarm system.
*
* Vehicle Condition - Exterior
*
* This 348 is a real head turner in Ferrari red and its timeless silver 5 spoke alloy wheels. The paintwork presents well for a 34 year old sports car, with some marks, scratches and chips present. There is a chip noted on the edge of the front right corner of the chin spoiler. A small repair is noted above the door guard on the drivers door. A small crack is also present along the bottom edge of the right side buttress.
*
* The 348's trademark alloy wheels are in nice shape with some marks and scuffs present. The tyres appear to have a decent amount of thread.
*
* Vehicle Condition - Interior
*
* On the inside the Crema colour scheme with the contrasting black works really well with the red exterior.
*
* The leather sports seats are in nice shape with light signs of use and wear. The jewel that takes centre stage is the gated 5 speed manual, which is a delight to command.
*
* The current owner had billet aluminium pedals fitted and these go well with the Ferrari's sporting nature. And the floor carpets look nice and fresh and finish off the interior.
*
* Elsewhere on the interior, the headliner is in good shape and the rest of the trim had aged well over the past 34 years. It is a nice cabin to be in, especially with the prancing horse sitting proudly on the steering wheel.
*
* Mechanical
*
* With 300BHP at 7,200rpm, the 348 has plenty of power to impress and with the 5 speed manual, it is a dream in todays worlds of flappy paddle automated gearboxes. During the photoshoot the 348 fired up with a very satisfying roar and idled very nicely.
*
* The owners service notes state that the 348 was serviced in 2019 at 81,204km. The note records that the oil was changed along with the cambelt. The Ferrari has covered just 17km since this service was carried out.
*
* Summary
*
* The Ferrari 348tb is peak 1990s Italian sports car exotica. Its Pininfarina styled body has aged superbly and it has all the design cues that petrolheads expect from a 90s sports car… shiny red paint, silver sports alloy wheels, pop up headlights and a screaming V8 exhaust note. The Ferrari 348tb is a bucket list Italian sports car and we think this one is worth a look.
