Chassis No. ZFFRG43A3R0098406 The 1993 Ferrari 348 Spider marked Ferrari's long-awaited return to true open-top motoring, representing the first genuine convertible from Maranello since the legendary 365 GTS/4 "Daytona" Spider ceased production in 1973. Developed under the direction of then-new Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, the 348 Spider featured a cleverly engineered power-operated convertible top that could be managed via a single-latch-and-lever mechanism, while retaining much of the iconic Pininfarina-penned, Testarossa-influenced design that characterized the 348 tb/ts of 1989. Mechanically, the 348 Spider, along with its new GTB and GTS siblings, benefited from an increase in output to 312 horsepower at 7200 rpm (up 12 horsepower) with an elevated 7,700 rpm redline. The chassis also received subtle but effective modifications including revised caster, camber, and shock valving, along with a wider rear track through increased wheel offset. These refinements markedly transformed the platform's handling characteristics, with Kevin Smith of Car and Driver magazine writing, “Stiff, low, and lively, the Spider feels crisp and sharply maneuverable on back roads yet quite compliant on the freeway and around town." This stunning left-hand-drive, U.S.-market 348 Spider was assembled in October 1993, finished in the exquisite Canna di Fucile Metallic over Blu Connolly leather livery it presents in today. The original window sticker indicates that the Ferrari was dispatched to Grand Prix Motors Ltd. of Seattle (now Maserati/Alfa Romeo of Seattle) with a total sticker price of $121,900.00 when new. The car’s original owner, listed in the original warranty and service book as Darryl Havens of Bothell, Washington, took delivery on 16 July 1994. The book also records a 7,500-mile service performed by the selling dealer on 17 December 1998. With an initial entry in March 1999, the accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows that the car remained registered in Washington for much of its life before being relocated to California in 2022. There, the car was the recipient of a comprehensive engine-out service conducted by Fast Cas Ltd. showing 17,646 miles. The work encompassed the replacement of the valve cover gaskets, timing belts, clutch assembly, triple seals, accessory drive belts, spark plugs, fuel filters, and air conditioning receiver-drier. Now offered with fewer than 50 miles traveled since this major service, this sorted, beautifully preserved 348 Spider is accompanied by its original Ferrari-branded car cover, Schedoni leather tool kit, original owner’s manuals in their original leather pouch, and the original window sticker. It is ready for many more miles of open-air enjoyment accompanied by its sonorous V8—described by Road & Track as "a flirtatious aria that sings along with the throttle's every depression and release."
